How to expand your data analytics network

If you're looking to break into the field of data analytics, networking is essential for success. While having the right skills and education is important, building a strong professional network can help you gain valuable insights, find new job opportunities, and accelerate your career growth.

Here are some reasons why networking is crucial when breaking into data analytics:

  1. Access to Job Opportunities: more and more job openings are not advertised and are filled through networking. By building relationships with other professionals in the field, you may gain access to job openings that you wouldn't have found otherwise.

  2. Learning About New Trends and Technologies: The field of data analytics is constantly evolving, with new technologies and trends emerging all the time. Networking can help you stay up to date with the latest developments and learn from other professionals who are working on cutting-edge projects.

  3. Getting Advice from Experienced Professionals: Networking provides an opportunity to connect with experienced professionals who can offer advice and mentorship. Learning from those who have already succeeded in the field can help you avoid common mistakes and accelerate your career growth.

  4. Building Professional Relationships: Networking allows you to build relationships with other professionals in the field, which can lead to collaborations, partnerships, and other opportunities for growth.
Thankfully, there are many ways to network nowadays. Whether it's in person or online. Here are some of my favorite ways to meet other data professionals:

  • Tableau User Groups: As the name implies these meetings are for people who work with Tableau or want to get into Tableau. I have been attending these since 2018 and there's always something to learn, and new people to meet. You can use their website to find an event near you or join any of the online events.

  • PowerBI User Groups: Just like the Tableau user groups, these group meetings are for PowerBI users. Their website allows you to find in-person and online events.

  • Alteryx User Groups: These user group meetings are for users of what is probably the most robust data cleaning tool, Alteryx. As I mentioned in this video, data cleaning is what you'll spend the most time doing as a Data Analyst so it's important that you stay up to date with the latest tips and tricks. Their website allows you to search for in-person and online events.

In conclusion, networking is essential for breaking into the field of data analytics. By building strong professional relationships and staying connected with other professionals in the field, you can gain valuable insights, access job opportunities, and accelerate your career growth. Don't underestimate the power of networking in achieving success in data analytics.
